Shining from afar - shining deep underground: CENTRE FOR INTERNATIONAL LIGHT ART

The collection of the Centre for International Light Art Unna in the former Linden Brewery has model character. Visible from afar through the chimney rising 52 metres into the sky, this contemporary art form has been offered a total area of 2,600 square metres deep underground since 2001. The museum gets its unique character from the concentration on the installation aspect of light art. Each of the light installations was created especially for the spaces on site and is individually tailored to this location in its aesthetic as well as technical appearance.

In the meantime, thirteen of the most internationally renowned light artists have set up a permanent installation: Mario Merz, Joseph Kosuth, Mischa Kuball, Rebecca Horn, Christina Kubisch, Keith Sonnier, Jan van Munster, François Morellet, Christian Boltanski, Brigitte Kowanz and Olafur Eliasson. The content focus of the collection is the work of James Turrell, who is represented in the collection with two works.

In this form, the Centre for International Light Art is the world's first and only museum that focuses on the presentation of light art. The encounter between avant-garde light art and historical building fabric creates an unmistakable atmosphere and stages an exciting dialogue between the past and the future.

Das Zentrum für Internationale Lichtkunst, eröffnet 2002, transformiert historische Industriearchitektur in ein innovatives Spektakel. Hier begegnen sich das Alte und das Neue in einer harmonischen Symbiose, die die Besucher in ihren Bann zieht.

Ein 52 Meter hoher Schornstein, bekannt als eine der Landmarken der Region, trägt die „Fibonacci-Reihe“ von Mario Merz. Diese neonblauen Zahlen, die den nächtlichen Himmel erhellen, symbolisieren natürliche Wachstumsprozesse in beeindruckender Manier. Unter der Erde, in den katakombenartigen Gewölben der ehemaligen Brauerei, entfalten die Kunstwerke ihre volle Wirkung und verweben Technik mit Kunst.

Bitte beachten: Der Besuch ist nur im Rahmen von Führungen möglich. Am ersten Sonntag eines Monats sind jedoch individuelle Erkundungen erlaubt.
