Museum/Exhibition Industrial culture diverse

The Ruhr Museum serves as a mirror for the far-reaching history of the Ruhrgebiet.

At the Ruhr Museum, history meets the present in an exciting, gripping mix. Here, in the imposing setting of the former coal washing plant of the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex - itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site - the history of the Ruhr region comes to life in three dimensions. With a spectacular backdrop and signposts to the future, the museum not only offers impressive insights into the formative coal mining era, but also into the transformation to the modern Ruhr region. It is guaranteed not to be boring, as more than 6,000 exhibits take you on an epic journey through millions of years: from the formation of coal to the dynamics of today's urban landscape.

Casual and anything but dusty, the Ruhr Museum presents itself as a kind of cultural map of the Ruhr region. A mix of myths and modernity, gripping stories and tangible insights await. Whether during one of the many themed tours or interactive workshops, the pulse of life in the Ruhr region is omnipresent here. Audio guides and an appealing gastronomic offer invite you to join in and make your visit a real experience. Every day, an awareness of yesterday is created here and space is made for the new - a place where relics meet revolution and inspire reflection. Experience the power of the past that lays the foundation for the future.
