The Großes Holz Mining Tip offers a far reaching view over the eastern Ruhr area.
One of the highest mountain summits in the Ruhr valley region is the top of the Bergehalde Großes Holz spoil tip.
The well-linked hiking trails and cycle routes found in this Rhineland mountain’s range enjoy a variety of bright colourful flora. Blue is the tip’s foremost colour because during the flowering period of lavender and viper’s bugloss, the pile’s fresh green is transformed into a luminous mountain blue.
And there’s still more blue courtesy of the winding towers, which have a bluish
shimmer to them and, at night, light up in a radiant blue.
At the top, a further highlight awaits: the IMPULS Bergkamen light sculpture, adding a 33-metre-high crown to the 148-metre-high spoil tip.
Bergehalde Großes Holz is easy to reach using public transport or by car and is accessible all year round.
One of the Ruhr valley’s many attractive opportunities for a spot of tiphopping.
It’s time to head for Bergehalde Großes Holz!
