Roundtour along the rivers Lippe and Seseke.

The Lippe and the Seseke are certainly not among the well-known rivers
in the radrevier.ruhr. However, they are undoubtedly attractive rivers
that create a special living environment for flora and fauna. By bike
these two river courses can be ideally cycled on this district route with a length of 47 kilometres.
The starting point
This circular route starts at the railway station in Lünen, which as a regional railway station is properly connected to the rail network. There is also a bike station on site where you can rent bikes if necessary.
Start of the tour
From the station in Lünen, the route first leads through the city centre and then along the Lippe and its beautiful floodplain landscapes. After crossing the Lippe and, a little later, the Datteln-Hamm Canal, the route follows the important waterway from junction 26.
Bathing fun at the Seepark Lünen
For a long time, the Preußenhafen was an important transhipment port for coal mined in the surrounding Preußen and Gneisenau collieries. Today the harbour is used more as a leisure harbour for hobby captains.
Lake Horstmar, just behind the harbour basin, lies on the site of a former state garden show that was held in Lünen in 1996. Originally, coal was mined here underground by the Preußen colliery. Today's Seepark Lünen is a popular local recreation area that provides pleasant refreshment, especially on hot summer days with its lido. A possible detour here leads to the beautiful Schwansbell Castle with its lovely park.
The Seseke
For the next few kilometres, the route follows the Seseke. For a long time it was used as a sewer. But thanks to a comprehensive renaturation programme, the Seseke has once again been given a near-natural stream.
The Seseke has also been culturally staged by the Capital of Culture project "Über Wasser Gehen" (Walking on Water). For example, cyclists pass the sculpture "Jetzt" (Now) or the "Pixelröhre" (Pixel Tube) along the way.
The former Klöcknerbahn
At junction 1, the route meets the former Klöcknerbahn. The railway line, which has been converted into a cycle path, leads north to Marina Rünthe. The modern marina exudes a touch of jet-set flair. A sporty excursion, on the other hand, can be made by bike up to the Großes Holz slag heap.
Back to the starting point
Along the Datteln-Hamm canal and later the Lippe, the tour leads back to the starting point in Lünen. Detours to the Bergkamen Roman Park with a replica of a wooden earth wall and the archaeological trail and the Bergkamen town museum with Roman section can be interesting.
