Halde Pattberg Moers

Landschaftspark NiederRhein
Stockpile

Die Halde Pattberg wurde bereits während der Nutzung durch die gleichnamige Zeche umgestaltet. Bachläufe wurden renaturiert, Waldflächen vergrößert und Biotope angelegt und Rad- und Wanderwege geschaffen.

It is one of the younger spoil tips in the Ruhr region and was originally designed by Ruhrkohle AG (now RAG) as a terraced table mountain: The Pattberg spoil tip, which emerged from the embankments of the colliery of the same name, was created in Moers between 1964 and 1985. The transformation of the slag heap into a fascinating landscape structure began while it was still in active use. The once planned table mountain was given three striking hilltops and developed into a popular excursion destination.

The backfilling by the Pattberg I / II shaft, which belonged to the Rheinpreußen colliery, began in the early 1960s and extended over two decades. A total of 48 hectares of tailings form the slag heap in the Repelen district of Moers. At a height of 75 metres, the extensive plateau is enthroned with a summit cross that commemorates the first ecumenical church service on 23 August 1991. Hang-gliders and model pilots in particular are drawn to the slag heap, which regularly hosted the Moers hang-gliding festival until 2007.

Visitors can enjoy an impressive view from the plateau: the Lower Rhine landscape and the north of Duisburg, characterised by industrial backdrops with coking plants, blast furnaces, steelworks and cooling towers. The Norddeutschland and Rheinpreußen slag heaps and Alsumer Berg are also clearly visible. A former weather protection hut made from mine support profiles now offers protection from the weather for climbers.
