Castle Viewpoint/Observation Tower

Aus der Ruhraue erhebt sich der Isenberg mit der eindrucksvollen Ruine der Burg Isenberg mit wunderschönen Ausblicken auf das Ruhrtal.

The Ruine Isenburg, which was built in 1200 by Count Arnold von Altena, is now one of Hattingen's most important archaeological sites from the High Middle Ages. At 240 metres long, it is not only one of the largest castle ruins in Germany, but also has a fascinating history. The castle was almost completely destroyed back in 1225 following the murder of Archbishop Engelbert.

Exploring the ruins offers a perfect symbiosis of the past and an inspiring experience of nature. High up on the fortress, there is a breathtaking view over the vast countryside that will take the breath away of creative minds and adventure seekers alike. With free admission, Isenburg Castle is the ideal starting point for a spontaneous trip - an adventure without any costs, but full of experiences.

A must for Instagram fans: every corner of the castle ruins is perfect for the perfect photo, a real insider tip away from the usual hotspots. Authentic and unspoilt: A place to unwind and recharge your batteries in nature.

The Isenburg ruins are a real highlight for anyone who wants to experience history vividly without missing out on original open spaces. This is where a medieval atmosphere meets a modern sense of adventure. A place that inspires and invites you to savour the little adventures of everyday life.
