Mother of all cultural mines
Under the visionary leadership of Helmut Bettenhausen, the Unser Fritz 2/3 artists' colliery was developed from a disused pit in 1964. This place is more than a simple testimony to the past - it is a pulsating hub of modern industrial culture. Bettenhausen was quick to recognise the potential of the mining architecture, which boldly opened itself up to cultural change and serves as an inspiring backdrop for creative development.
Today, Unser Fritz 2/3 inspires visitors with a diverse programme of events, ranging from exhibitions and discussions to concerts and readings. Artists' studios and exhibition spaces invite visitors to experience the creative power at first hand. A space for curiosity and creative exchange is created here, which not only inspires but also opens up new horizons. Particularly impressive is the former winding machine hall, which has established itself as an ideal venue for events thanks to its unusual architecture.
The surroundings of the colliery enhance the charm of this unique cultural asset: a play forest with a cultural garden and the summer restaurant "Steinmeister's Biergarten - Oskar am Kanal" offer a relaxed atmosphere in the open air. The offer is complemented by a pier for passenger ships in the immediate vicinity - perfect opportunities to explore the surroundings both on the water and on land.
