The name (literally meaning “Century Hall Bochum”) speaks for itself –
and not just because the hall has now been around for over a century, but
because it’s been delivering for over a century too.
 
Originally, the building was mainly used for producing gas. Today, the emphasis is more on
producing joy, sweat and tears. In short, it’s a prime example of the
cultural transformation of the Ruhr metropolitan region, demonstrating how
dusty industry can become fertile ground for contemporary culture.
Since April 2003 the listed hall has hosted countless events. Festivals,
gala events, trade fairs, rock, pop and jazz concerts, award ceremonies
and pretty much anything else you can think of.
