Between November 20 and December 23, 2025, Bochum Marketing GmbH is organizing this year's Christmas market in Bochum's city centre (closed: Dead Sunday, November 23, 2025).

Whether at the Medieval Market or between fairy tales and floating Santas, this year's market will once again feature many attractions and a total of around 200 stalls, transforming it into a world of its own from November 20 to December 23.

Where Santa Claus can fly

Every day at 5 and 7 p.m., he floats over Dr.-Ruer-Platz on a 125-metre-long and 33-metre-high track, telling a Christmas story along the way. He then greets visitors from the Sparkasse Christmas stage. Santa Claus is particularly delighted when children recite a poem or sing a song together with him. It pays to be brave - a nice surprise awaits the little participants. The "Flying Santa", alias Falko Traber, comes from a famous family of artists and once again offers a special show at the weekends that is unique in this form in Germany: he will also glide down 84 meters as the crow flies from the roof of the Sparkasse building on an inclined rope.

Medieval market around St. Paul's Church

"Greetings and a short break in the time of Adveniat", don't be surprised if you are greeted like this or something similar, because the time travelers are in town. Between Grabenstraße and Pariser Straße, jugglers and vagabonds, cooks and tavern keepers as well as the well-traveled minstrels with their historical instruments come together. Enjoy the unique atmosphere when the women examine the jewelry, the children enjoy the jugglers and the warriors taste the hot mead. Especially at the weekends, you can experience true Kurtzweyl on the stage and don't miss the blacksmith's apprentice, who knows how to tell you all about ancient crafts.

Group tours of the medieval market

A tour guide in costume takes you on a journey through the historical hustle and bustle of the medieval market around St. Paul's Church. To round off the 45-minute tour, mulled wine or grape punch can be booked at the same time. The Christmas tour can be booked individually for groups. Information and booking at buchungen@bochum-tourismus.de.

Curling

The curling rink on the boulevard in front of "Mutter Wittig" promises sporting fun, whether with family, friends or for a Christmas party. Groups of up to eight people can try their hand at this popular sport from the Alpine region on the 14-metre-long rink made of synthetic ice. Each game lasts 90 minutes, the rink simply needs to be booked in advance via the website and the confirmation presented to the staff at the neighboring mulled wine stand "London Bus" in order to receive the equipment to play. The curling rink is open during the core opening hours of the Christmas market from 12 noon to 9 p.m. (except on Boxing Day).
